A rural Scott County burglary earlier in October was solved and three county residents found themselves behind bars following an extensive investigation by Scott county Sheriff’s deputies.
Bethany Sparrow, 39 of the 1000 block of East Cutshall Road Austin and Slater Douglas Bowling, 30 of the 300 block of N Third Street in Scottsburg face theft and drug charges. Christopher S. Carver, 30, of the 200 block of S. Meridian Street in Scottsburg is charged with burglary of a dwelling, theft of a firearm and theft.
A break-in and theft was reported at a North Finley Firehouse Road residence on Oct. 11 in which guns, jewelry and knives were reported missing.
Acting on anonymous tips, Sheriff’s Detective Donovan McCutcheon learned on Oct. 15 that Carver, who was the victim’s sister’s nephew, was involved in the burglary.
On Oct. 15 McCutcheon went to Carver’s Meridian Street residence to speak with him. While sitting in the officer’s patrol vehicle, according to the probable cause affidavit, Carver admitted forcing his way into the garage area and taking a wooden box with a knife set in it.
Carver told the deputy that Bethany Sparrow was involved with the break-in.
Carver was booked into Scott County Jail at 2:04 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
McCutcheon continued his investigation by electronically reviewing pawn tickets by suspects in the case when he came across some jewelry taken in the burglary which were pawned. The officer contacted Cash America Pawn in Clarksville, placed a hold on the jewelry since they were a part of the investigation and observed that Sparrow was in the photo of the pawn transaction.
On Oct. 24 the deputy secured a search warrant for Sparrow’s Cutshall Road residence. When he went to the residence he found Sparrow and Bowling in the home. In searching the home, officers found watches and keyrings taken in the Finley Firehouse Road burglary and evidence linking Sparrow to other area burglaries.
Additionally, deputies found a baggie with 2.3 grams of methamphetamine, a coin purse containing a baggie with crush fentanyl and a partially smoked marijuana cigarette
Bethany Sparrow was booked in to Scott County Jail at 1:39 p.m. charged with burglary of a dwelling, theft, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana.
