Scottsburg City Council approved on all three readings a parking ban boats and recreational vehicles on city streets at their regular meeting on Sept. 9.
Scottsburg Police Chief David Hardin said that large boats and recreational vehicles were causing an issue for traffic and emergency vehicles.
Council member Rick Cozart asked Hardin if this applied to cars, which the police chief responded that this ordinance did not.
City attorney Josh Stigdon said that there is an Indiana statute that prohibits cars from blocking roadways but not recreational vehicles, allowing the city to have ordinances for these scenarios.
The council voted unanimously to approve the measure on all three readings with Stigdon following up with the ordinance going into effect on today, Sept. 18.
