The Scott County Board of Commissioners had the first reading to increase the SASCO fee and transfer station at their meeting on April 26.
“I want the public to be more attendance,” said Commissioner President Mike Jones. “We are trying to keep the landfill open and this is one of the solutions that we are coming up with.”
The commissioners intend to amend the ordinances for the fees on the bags and stickers to be $1.50.
“The purpose is to help maintain the program and not to receive any revenue or profit,” said Jones.
County Attorney Zach Stewart said, “Any proposed increase is not for the purpose to make money at the transfer station but to break even.”
The proposed fee changes for the transfer station include a compact truck with debris that is below the bed is $25 (up from $22.50), a compact truck with debris above the bed is $40, a full-size pickup with debris that is not the top of the bed is $35 (up from $30.75), a full-size truck with debris above the bed is $55, a 7×10 dump trailer is $50, a 7×14 dump trailer is $75, 7×16 dump trailer is $90, 7×20 dump trailer is $100, a single axel dump truck up to half a ton is $70, a single axel dump truck up to 2 tons is $175 and barrels are $15 (up from $6).
Both first readings were approved on the SASCO and transfer station fee but a public hearing for both of the ordinances will be held when the commissioners meet on Wednesday, May 17.
