A 34-year-old Austin man faces preliminary charges related to a hit-and-run wreck early last Wednesday morning, Jan. 4, on State Road 256 in southern Jackson County near the Scott County line.
Brian David Davis Jr. of Austin faces a felony charges of operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury, according to Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer.
The charges against Davis stem from a personal injury wreck reported at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on State Road 256 in Vernon Township.
Officers responding to the crash found personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services treating a male motorist for head trauma and internal injuries, Meyer said. The man told police he had been driving east on State Road 256 when his vehicle was struck from behind by a motorist in a second vehicle who left the scene.
Meyer said officers at the scene, including county officers Scott Arnold and Conner Emily and Crothersville Officer Mark Reynolds, found a box with a name and an address, debris from a white vehicle and a Dodge Ram grill.
Arnold and officers with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department went to an address in the 3000 block of North Thomastown Road on the westside of Austin to look for the white Dodge Ram, Meyer said.
He reported officers found a white Dodge ram with front-end damage in the driveway of a residence and a trail of blood leading to the front door of the home.
Inside the residence, they found Davis, who showed obvious signs of being injured, Meyer said.
The sheriff said Davis admitted to officers that he had been in an accident and left the scene.
Davis was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for a blood draw and later booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 8:52 a.m. Wednesday. He was being held without bond pending his initial hearing.
The male driver who was struck was taken to Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg and then transported to University of Louisville Hospital, Meyer said.
