The Scottsburg City Council voted to establish the speed limit signs on Lake Road West from US 31 to the Interstate at their monthly meeting on Monday, June 13. Previously going east there was a small 30 mph sign but there were no speed limit signs going to the west.
The county controls the speed limit on the west side of the bridge over the interstate on Lake Road as it is outside the city limits.
Council Member Chris Albertson said, “The commissioners met and discussed it, but I haven’t heard what the final outcome is yet.”
Jill Baker responded, “County Commissioner (John) Lizenby called me when he couldn’t get hold of you, Chris, and said that they’re not going to change their end right now.”
She added that if the city council wanted to put a sign up for reduced speed that the commissioners were fine with that sign going up. The county is required to do a speed study to change the speed limit if they were to do so.
The city council approved the established speed limits after the third and final reading. A legal notice of the ordinance passage is found on Page 8 of this issue.
