A Wednesday night traffic stop in southern Scott County sent four people to jail on drug charges.
Around 9:30 p.m. last Wednesday Jan. 26, Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Johnney Coomer was on patrol in near the intersection of Collins Road and County Line Road when he observed a dark colored passenger van parked in the roadway.
The van’s side sliding door was open and as he drove up to the van, it began moving west on County Line Road. Coomer made a traffic stop for a moving violation shortly thereafter.
After the deputy’s questioning, the driver of the van, Mark A. Winchester, 28 of Lexington was found to be driving with a suspended license.
The three passengers in the van were identified as Dustin Wood, 31, of Austin, James Winchester, 26, of Austin, and Carmyn Porter, 30, of Scottsburg were all taken into custody for various drug offenses and transported to the Scott County Jail by Deputy Jailers who responded to the scene to assist.
While booking-in Carmyn Porter, Deputy Jailer Lindsay Neace located about 6 grams of heroin on Porter who was apparently attempting to smuggle the drug into the jail. She now faces an additional charge of trafficking with an inmate since the drugs were found on her inside the jail.
•Mark A. Winchester, 28, Lexington was booked into jail for maintaining a common nuisance and for driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
•Dustin K. Wood, 31, of Austin was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of a syringe, possession of paraphernalia, and visiting a common nuisance.
•James R. Winchester, 26, of Austin was charged with visiting a common nuisance.
•Carmyn M. Porter, 30, of Scottsburg was charged with visiting a common nuisance, obstruction of justice, possession of a syringe, possession of a narcotic drug, dealing in a narcotic drug, and trafficking with an inmate.
Earlier that morning, in an unrelated incident, deputies arrested Teresa Noel, 60 of Hanover on an escape warrant and for dealing in methamphetamine.
