An alert neighbor notifying authorities led to the arrest of a 32-year-old English for vehicle theft last Thursday morning.
According to Sheriff Rick Meyer, his department received a report of a suspicious man walking up a driveway west of Crothersville. As Meyer and Deputies Brad Barker and Zack Elliot went to investigate, another call came in saying that the man was seen driving a white truck that didn’t belong to him.
According to Meyer the truck was taken from a residence of C.R. 540 S on rural Crothersville east of Tampico in Grassy Fork Township. Police followed the vehicle as it turned north on CR 600 E toward State Road 250.
Once the truck got onto SR 250, Deputy Zack Elliot activated his emergency lights and the truck pulled over.
The driver of the truck, Cory Despain, 32, of English admitted to taking the truck, according to Meyer’s news release.
Despain was transported to Jackson County Jail where he was booked on a charge of auto theft.
