On Wednesday, May 12, Deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Birch Tree Lane residence in Scottsburg on a report of a domestic dispute.
One of the individuals involved, Stephen McManus, 29, of Franks Drive in Madison, was allegedly at a residence without the homeowner’s consent.
When they arrived, deputies discovered McManus’s vehicle was near the residence with the homeowner’s dog inside of the vehicle. McManus had reportedly taken the homeowner’s dog and a firearm from the residence.
The deputies’ also learned McManus was on parole from the Indiana Department of Correction.
Neighbors reported they observed a man matching McManus’ description run from the home to a wooded area near the residence.
After searching for McManus, deputies located him at a nearby gas station in Scottsburg.
He was taken into custody for residential entry, resisting law enforcement, criminal trespass, and parole violation.
He was incarcerated in Scott County Jail.
In his initial appearance on Friday before Magistrate Allison Frazier, bond was set at $15,000 corporate surety or $1,500 cash bond. As of the Times press deadline, McManus remains in custody.
