The Scott County Health Department conducted a successful H1N1 Clinic for the general public, Thursday, December 17, at the Knights of Columbus Fellowship Hall.
The Health Department Staff relied on local residents volunteering and this clinic was just as organized and successful as the first one the week before. Almost 600 people from Scott County and surrounding areas received the vaccine.
Several nurse stations were set up and the public was directed to a specific station to receive their H1N1 vaccination, said Patti Hall, Office Manager/Preparedness Coordinator.
“Much of the help was strictly volunteer and we couldn’t do without their efforts,” said Hall. Scott Memorial Hospital has provided some of their guild members, Scott County EMS personnel and several local county elected officials along with their staff have assisted. Several members of the Scott County Pilot Club have also volunteered. Many local businesses have donated food and drinks and that is always appreciated.
“Anyone wanting to assist either at any of our clinics or with donating food/drinks is urged to contact the Health Department,” said Hall.
The next H1N1 public clinic is scheduled for January 9 at the Knights of Columbus Fellowship Hall. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The parents of any child receiving their first dose of injectable vaccine at either of the two previous public clinics are encouraged to bring them on Jan. 9. For those that received the nasal mist on December 9, those children under 10 can receive their second dose.
Anyone whose child has attended any other clinic or physician office and they want to come to this clinic, as long as it has been 21 days (injectable) and 28 days (nasal mist) those children are welcome and encouraged to come. It is our intention to make sure each child is immunized and protected against the H1N1 virus.
A third round of virus infection is expected after the first of the year.
