There was a record number of births recorded in Jackson County in 2013 according to statistics released by the Jackson County Health Department.
A total of 773 births (387 boys and 386 girls) were born in Jackson County. That surpasses the previous record of 751 in 2008.
The health department compiled records back to 1981.
There were nine sets of twins reported born in 2013. The highest number of twin births in the county was 15 which occurred in 2004.
There were 397 deaths recorded in Jackson County in 2013; 208 males and 189 females. The highest number of deaths in the county occurred in 2012 when 416 died.
Cancer was the leading cause of death in the county last year resulting in 100 deaths (64 males and 36 females).
The number two cause of death was heart related disease which claimed the lives of 73 in the county including 34 men and 39 women.
Respiratory & pulmonary conditions resulted in the deaths of 41 in Jackson County.
