When the Jackson County delinquent property tax sale list was first advertised in September there were 92 parcels with back taxes owed. By the time of the tax sale on Monday, Oct. 25, began at the courthouse, that list had been pared down to 23 after property owners paid taxes owed prior to the sale.

Those 23 parcels owed a total of $82,233.53 in unpaid property taxes and fees. There were 18 registered bidders with six successful bidders who paid a total of $764,675.75 for 19 parcels on which $50,882.13 was owed.

 “The county is only interested in the taxes owed,” said Jackson County Treasurer Roger Hurt. “The amount paid over the taxes owed will go into a surplus tax sale fund.”

He explained that those properties sold on Monday can be redeemed by their owners by paying the taxes plus 10% for up to the next six months; after that the interest increases to 15%. Upon redemption, the surplus paid by the successful bidder will be returned to that bidder.

Four properties, one in Brownstown, one in Vallonia and two in Seymour, failed to obtain the minimum bid of taxes owed which totaled $31,351.40, according to County Treasurer Kathy Hohenstreiter.

Successful bidders included:

•Matthew A. Hercamp of Seymour who purchased two properties for a total of $90,000.

•Savvy IN LLC of Memphis Tennessee which purchased 11 properties for a total of $509,000.

•Alex H LLC of Wabash IN purchased one parcel for $1,175.75.

•M&M Investment Group LLC of Cortland, which purchased three properties for a total of $34,500.

•Shammah Investments LLC of Connersville which purchased one parcel for $60,000..

•2K21, LLC Kyle Walton of Salem purchased on parcel for $70,000.
