When the Jackson County delinquent property tax sale list was first advertised in August there were 58 parcels with back taxes owed. By the time of the tax sale last Thursday, Oct. 10, began at the courthouse, that list had been pared down to 16 after property owners paid taxes owed prior to the sale.

Those 16 parcels owed a total of $41,265.65 in unpaid property taxes and fees. There were 17 registered bidders with 8 successful bidders who paid a total of $287,703.48 for 15 parcels on which $40,629.07 was owed.

 “The county is only interested in the taxes owed,” said Jackson County Auditor Hans Eilbracht. “The amount paid over the taxes owed will go into a surplus tax sale fund.”

He explained that those properties sold last Thursday can be redeemed by their owners by paying the taxes plus 10% for up to the next six months; after that the interest increases to 15%. Upon redemption, the surplus paid by the successful bidder will be returned to that bidder plus interest.

One property in Carr Township failed to obtain the minimum bid of taxes owed of $636.58, according to County Treasurer Kathy Hohenstreiter.

Successful bidders included:

•SAVVY IN LLC of Memphis, TN which bought three properties for $5,162,73.

•M&M Investment Group LLC of Cortland which bought six properties for $208,000.

•Sabre Investments LLC of Carbondale, IL who bought one property for $50,000.

•Latasha Klakamp of Brownstown who bought one parcel for $20,000.

•Amanda Cooper of Franklin who bought one parcel for $315.77.

•Walter & Debra Weddle of Medora bought one parcel for $1,000.

•Matthew Hercamp of Seymour bought one parcel for $224.98.

•Pascual Pablo Miguel of Seymour bought one parcel for $3,000.
