Three Louisville brothers were arrested by Austin and Scott County law enforcement on Friday on charges involving the robbery of the recently opened Indiana Bank & Trust on US 31 south of Austin.
After robbing the bank the trio fled the area in an older Dodge Dakota pickup crashing into a pair of Austin police cars. Police pursued the vehicle south into Scottsburg and then south on I-65 before the stopping near the Scott-Clark County Line where they were taken into custody.
On Jan. 2 at approximately 10:58 a.m., two Austin City Police officers were dispatched to the Indiana Bank and Trust located on U. S. Highway 31 South in Austin for two suspicious males walking around in the rear of the bank building. While the two officers were enroute they were contacted again by Scott County Central Dispatch advising of a robbery at that same location.
Officers arrived shortly after this to see two white male subjects running across a church parking lot located on the south side of the bank. As officers closed in on the two white males they jumped into a white older model Dodge Dakota pickup truck that was parked behind the church.
As the trio took off in the vehicle it crashed into two Austin City Police Cars and continued traveling, going south on U.S. 31. The two Austin City Police Cars pursued the white Dodge pickup and as they entered Scottsburg, Scottsburg City Police also joined in on the pursuit. As the pursuit reached the intersection of U. S. 31 and State Road 56 in Scottsburg the white Dodge pickup truck turned west on State Road 56. After traveling approximately one mile it turned south onto Interstate 65.
Several police cars were in pursuit and at approximately the 24 mile marker the pursuit ended with the white Dodge pickup truck stopping. As the truck stopped one of the persons being pursued, Thomas Davidson fled the truck but was captured after a short foot pursuit by officers at the scene. The other two persons, the driver Samuel Davidson and Robert Davidson, were apprehended in the truck.
Arrested were Robert W. Davidson, 38, of Louisville charged with robbery; Samuel I. Davidson, 36, of Louisville charged with fleeing law enforcement in a vehicle and battery to a law enforcement officer; Thomas E. Davidson, of Louisville, charged with robbery and fleeing law enforcement on foot
In the robbery, brothers Robert Davidson and Thomas Davidson allegedly entered the bank demanding money. The third brother Samuel Davidson was the driver of the vehicle and never entered the Indiana Bank and Trust. When they were captured U. S. Currency believed to be from the Indiana Bank and Trust was recovered.
Two Austin police officers received minor injuries during the pursuit when their police cars were struck by the fleeing white Dodge pickup truck. The police cars also sustained very minor damage. No one at the Indiana Bank and Trust were injured.
Robert Davidson and Samuel Davidson were incarcerated in the Scott County Jail awaiting their first court appearance. Thomas Davidson treated at the Scott County Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries he received during this incident before being incarcerated at Scott County Jail.
This is the second robbery on the Indiana Bank & Trust in a month. On Dec. 8, shortly after the bank opened an undisclosed amount of money was taken by a lone man who left the scene in a gray van.
