Jonathan ‘Chisel’ Chilton

Police investigators are attempting to locate Jonathan Lee ‘Chisel’ Chilton, whom they describe as a person of interest involved in a shooting incident that occurred just after 12:30 a.m. last Tuesday morning, May 27, near Crothersville.
Chilton is a 28 year old white male, 6’0”, 155 pounds, medium build with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone who has information on Chilton’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Indiana State Police at 812-689-5000.
According to ISP Detective Roger Drew, Jay McGin-nis, 35, of Austin had reported at 12:30 a.m. on May 27 that the back window of his 2006 Nissan Altima had been shot out. McGinnis suffered a very minor injury as a result of the shooting. It is unknown if a bullet, bullet fragment, or glass caused the injury.
According to Crothersville Chief of Police Richard Hanlin, the incident began as a domestic dispute at a residence in the 600 block of East Bard Street.
“The victim left and drove north on US 31. The shooting occurred between Crothersville and Uniontown,” he said.
McGinnis was driving when a passenger of another vehicle shot at his back window. It’s unclear how many bullets were fired, Hanlin said.
The shooting was not random, Hanlin said. “It began as an argument that escalated.”
Police continue to search for the suspect in the Crothersville and Scott County area, he said.
Investigators have been working on the incident conducted two search warrants near Austin. As a result of those search warrants, four individuals were arrested on drug related charges. (See related story.)
Agencies assisting with the investigation include Crothers-ville and Austin Police Departments, and Scott and Jennings County Sheriff’s Departments and the Indiana State Police.
