Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of a fire on Friday that destroyed the home of a Crothersville couple.
No one was injured in the fire, reported shortly before 1 p.m. at the home of Bill Sebastian and Jessica Fleetwood at 502 North Jackson St. in Crothersville. The couple was in Scottsburg when the fire was first reported.
“When we arrived on scene smoke was bellowing out of the house from every opening.,” said Crothersville-Vernon Township VFD Captain Derrick Minton. “We had one group of firefighters enter the house through forcible entry to extinguish flames and knock down the majority of the fire. We had other firefighters on the roof ventilating the roof and trying to attack the fire. The pump operator use the pumper truck’s deck gun to dump a lot of water on the roof to keep fire from coming out and getting close to the firefighters on the roof.”
Minton said that the bulk of the fire was centered in the area of the furnace in the utility room. He estimated about $80,000 damage to the home and contents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
Crothersville-Vernon firefighters remained on the scene at 4 p.m. Friday. Jackson-Washington VFD assisted at the scene.
