1st Graders Share Recipes For Their Favorite Thanksgiving Dish

In an annual Thanksgiving tradition, the Times presents first graders’ recipes for their favorite dish for tomorrow’s holiday meal. We thank teachers from Crothersville Karra Hercamp & Ashley Spicer and Austin first grade teachers Lacey Hall, Tonya Wass, Shelby Mays, Maddie DiBlasi and Lesley Reverman for their help with this writing assignment.

Turkey Braygan A.

Every time you go to the barn to get the turkey and cook it up. Cook it for 5 or 10 minutes. When it’s done we just put it in the microwave so it can still be warm for dinnertime.

Skyline Dip     Kinley B.

So you make Skyline and then you make it into dip. You don’t put noodles in it like you do with Skyline. I don’t know. I usually just play until they make dinner. If you want to know how to make it you will probably have to ask mommy or grandma; but she lives in Ohio. She makes awesome Skyline.

Peanut Butter Sandwich         Gideon G.

First she asks what shape to cut it into. I say triangle. She gets the peanut butter out and the knife to spread the peanut butter on the sandwich. Then she gives it to me and that is it.

I don’t know either.

The chicken goes in the oven for 17 minutes. Take it out and let it cool down. Wait until everyone gets there. Then you eat it.

Mommy puts the chicken in the oven for 20 minutes or 30. She wraps it up. I don’t know. Then we go to Nanny’s.

She gets the turkey from Wal-Mart. She cooks it in the oven with cheese and salt on it. It cooks about 2 minutes. Then she gets it ready and calls us down for dinnertime.

I think they cook it in the microwave. It will need water, cheese, and stir it with a spoon for 30 seconds. I think that is it.

Dad kills the turkey. He caught a turkey from Poppy’s woods. He cooks it on the stove in a pan. He puts mustard and sauce; but I don’t know what it’s called. He cooks it about 1 hour. My dad cuts it and my family comes over for a dinner cookout.

Mash up the potatoes with the green beans and chicken with ketchup. Open the can and take it out and put it in a pan. You wait for it. Now you are going to take it out and put it on a plate.

My mom makes the chicken. She like microwaves them or uses the oven. She cooks it for 10, 50, or 20 minutes. She uses the microwave to cook the mac and cheese. It cooks for almost as long as the chicken. Like 10 or 20 minutes. We drink Coke with it.

Chicken, my dad always makes it. He usually buys a chicken at a farm. He has a friend that works at a farm. He put spices on it, like salt and pepper. I don’t know about the other one. He makes it in the pot. He cooks it on the stove for about 10 minutes or so.  Then he puts it on a big plate. He yells for Emily to get the kids food. Then we eat at the dining room table.

Mom starts at the stick and puts on a hotdog and bun. Then put a little sauce on it. That is how you make a corn dog!

Pumpkin Pie

Take out the pumpkin seeds and get hot water. Put the seeds in the water. Let them sit there for a while. Stir them up. Put sugar on them. Get the pumpkin pie crust then mash up the seeds. Pour into crust. Roll up the dough and make the crosses. Then cook for 15 hours.

French Toast With Bananas & Eggs

Get bread and put the eggs on it. Cook it for like 91 minutes. Then chop the bananas and then add like some decorations on it. Then eat it.

Get the turkey out of the bag. Put all of the ingredients on it. Put it in the oven, then eat it.

Take the rice cakes and make it into a turkey or something and then add food coloring into the fondant, then put the fondant on the rice cakes and add more details.

You put some mashed potatoes and mix it up with some little casserole things in it…I don’t really know what casserole things are. I’m not sure if she puts it in the oven because I don’t get to watch her.

You go in the woods and find one and kill it. Then you put some sauce on it and then you put it in the oven for four hours.

You put it in the stove and you cook it for 63 hours. Then you get it out and you eat it.

You got to smash the mashed potatoes. You have to cook them first. I don’t know what else to do. I don’t like anything on my mashed potatoes!

You get a turkey and then you take out the bones and the legs and the skin and then you put fruit and vegetables in it…I think. You cook it for 30 minutes!

Shrimp Kelsey

I don’t know how to fix shrimp. I just eat it! I love it! I don’t know what to do! We put it in the oven. We let it cool down. We get some chicken and take everything off of the chicken and we leave it outside. We give some to the dog.

You go into the woods and get a turkey. Then you put it in the oven for about 6 minutes. Then you get it out of the oven and then you put a little bit of salt on it and you are ready to eat it.

We do it two ways. We either put it in the pan and get a squeezy thing and put Dr. Pepper on it. Or my dad puts it in a hot water thing and cooks it and pulls it out when it is done. We cool it off and then we eat it.

If I go in the woods and find one, I would kill it and then take it home and get all the nasty stuff out of it. Then I will put it in the oven for 5 or 10 minutes and then I will cool it off. And then I will eat it!

I don’t know where you get it. Walmart? Cook it with something that we have at our house. I don’t know where to cook it but cook it a lot! When it is done, get it out of the oven. Then Pappy puts it on the plate and then you eat it. And then when we are done we throw it in the trash can.

You get a turkey from Walmart and put it in the oven. Cook it for 7 minutes. Then eat it. When I get done, I will put my plate in the sink.

You fix it in the oven. Cook it for 100,000 minutes. Measure it when it gets done. Then eat it!

I like turkey shaped like a heart. You get it on the stove and cook it for 28 hours and then I take it and cut it into little pieces. And I put some icing on it and sprinkles on it. Then let it set for 6 hours. Then I put it in the microwave for 6 more hours. I make a cake that says “Thanksgiving Is the Best.” With sprinkles! Then I cut it for my family and then we eat.

I fix it in the oven. I get the turkey from the store. I cook it for probably 5 minutes. Then we put it on a plate and then eat it! And I like corn too! I love corn! You cut the green stuff off of it and then you cook it in a pan and then you eat it. It probably cooks for like 2 minutes.

You get the can from the cabinet. You pour all the corn juice out and you put it in the pot. You put it on the stove. Wait for it to warm up. Put it in another pot. And then you are done!

You put it in the bowl and stir it up and then put the cheese in it. And then I eat it!

You put it in the pot and then you have to boil it. You boil it for about 5 to 10 minutes. You eat it when it comes out of the pot.

Take a metal bowl and add crust in it. Then add melted blueberries. Put it in the freezer overnight, then it would be done.

You just get a turkey and you put it in the oven and it will make turkey. It has to be not alive first, then you cook it.

Get a pumpkin and a pie. You cook it in the oven. And then you eat it!

Boil water and put it into this thingy. Then drain the water out in a pan with holes in it. Add meatballs. Add spaghetti sauce.

You put them in a bowl and you heat it up in the microwave. Put a little water in it so they can get movey and jiggly. You put whatever kind of sauce you want in it and then you eat it.

Go to the store and buy it. Then we put a bunch of BBQ sauce on it. Then put it in the oven and let all of the sauce cook on it. Cook it at around 20-30 degrees.

First, you go to the store and buy it. Then, you go home and smash it. Then, you put it in the bowl and put it in the water. Cook it in the microwave and wait and then you can eat them.

Bananas, vanilla wafers, and sugar. After that, she puts it in the fridge. When it is done we eat it.
