While many Jackson County residents have been dealing with snow and sub-freezing temperatures, rural Crothersville resident Mike Brumett has been dealing with ripe tomatoes.
While laying claim to the first ripe tomato of 2011, Brumett acknowledged that his hothouse grown tomato will undoubtedly cause considerable debate and debunking from area gardeners. But plucking a cueball size tomato off a plant, he smiled “Sorry about their luck,” just before biting into the vine ripened fruits.
Undoubtedly, like some national sports records, his “First Ripe Tomato” claim will be followed by an asterisk.
