Josirah and Pauline Combest of Butlerville are both in good health after being stranded in flood water last Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 7. Josirah is 75 years of age and Pauline is 74.
Indiana Conservation Officers received a call that a truck was stalled in floodwater on State Road 39 North of Little York in Washington County. Several Conservation officers responded to the area.
Conservation Officer Matt Pearcy arrived first on scene and located the Chevrolet S-10 truck stalled in flood water about 400 yards into the water. The water was approaching the bottom of the truck’s window.
Pearcy was able to put a life vest and waders on and wade to the stranded vehicle and was able to get both of the individuals to put on a life vest.
Damon Fleenor, a Gibson Township volunteer Fireman who lived in the area responded to the scene with his aluminum Jon boat. Fleenor was assisted by Nathan Robinson. Volunteers were able to get the boat to the stranded truck and safely transport Mr. and Mrs. Combest to safety.
The two were transported to Scott Memorial Hospital where they were treated for possible hypothermia and released.
