Randy King (right) talks with his fellow Rumpke workers in Louisville after his supervisor, Kevin Lord, announced that Kin was named the EIA Rollback Driver of the Year.
Randy ‘Waylon’ King is one of the best garbage truck drivers in the U.S.
King has been named ‘Driver of the Year’ by the Environmental Industry Associations (EIA). He drives a Rumpke truck 800 miles per week, and hasn’t had a single accident in 19 years.
“Some customers request Randy specifically because of the great service he provides,” said Operations Manager Mike Mosier. “Randy takes his driving and the training of others very seriously.”
King drives a roll off truck, collecting open top containers from construction sites or compactors from shopping malls or other large venues.
His nomination for this award included recommendations from the Louisville Bats and the Harbor Group Management Company.
A lifelong resident of Crothersville, King has been married 25 years to Annette and they two children. He is active in the Bethany Baptist church and enjoys horseback riding and gardening.
King, a long time fan of country singer Waylon Jennings, got the nickname when he was a teenager and the moniker has stuck.
King was recognized by his peers at Rumpke on April 3 during an employee breakfast in Louisville. He will also share a national stage with other top drivers from across the country at an industry awards ceremony next month in New Orleans.
Rumpke Consolidated Companies, Inc. is one of the nation’s largest privately owned residential and commercial waste and recycling firms, providing service to areas of Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia.
