On Saturday evening, September 12, several Crothersville area residents enjoyed a meal of potato soup, hot dogs and coney dogs, chips, drinks, and desserts, as CARD (Crothersville Area Revitalization and Development) hosted its September Soup Supper.
Singer Judith Montgomery gave a spirited performance of gospel and patriotic songs, beginning with those in attendance joining in singing “God Bless America.” Other patriotic numbers included such songs as “Scars and Stripes,” “The Star Spangled Banner,” “Going Back,” “God Bless the U. S. A.,” and “I’m Proud to be a Christian in America.” Gospel numbers included “The Lighthouse,” “Let My Life Make a Difference,” “Boundless Love,” and others.
Another important part of the Supper was the announcement of the winner of Crothersville’s Biggest Loser contest. Dr. Joe Butler announced that Ralph Hillenburg was winner of the Fall installment of the contest. Hillenburg achieved 8.1 percent total weight loss, and received a trophy and $27.50 (half of the intake) in celebration of his accomplishment.
Another installment of the contest is being planned, with details to be announced at a later date.
Several of those in attendance won raffle items: Large Crothersville Sesquicentennial Souvenir Assortment, Walter Mosley; 3-piece Sesquicentennial Souvenir Sets, Walter Mosley and Nancy Nay; Sesquicentennial Banner, Becky Bujwid; Judith Montgomery CD, Nancy Nay; Hummingbird Figurine, Eunice Lacey; Outdoor Fall Decoration, Walter Mosley; Kitchen Set, Barbara Deputy; Necklace and Note Set, Barbara Deputy.
CARD would like to thank the Crothersville/Vernon Township Fire Department for all their help and the use of their facility, and Linda Brock for her assistance with the meal and clean-up.
CARD invites area residents to join them at the next meeting on Monday, September 21, at the Town Hall at 6:00 p.m., when last-minute details will be decided for handing out Halloween treats, and planning will continue for the Christmas holiday season.
CARD meets on the third Monday of each month. Funds are administered by the Community Foundation of Jackson County, and are used for various projects undertaken by CARD in its efforts to improve the Crothersville-Vernon Township community.
