Trying to elude police landed two Austin women in jail last Wednesday morning.
Indiana State Police attempted to make a traffic stop for a minor infraction on Clay Street in Austin around 10 a.m. on a red 1993 Buick.
But when the trooper activated his emergency lights the vehicle fled. The pursuit lasted several minutes traveling several city streets in Austin reaching speeds up to 70 mph. The pursuit ended when the vehicle pulled into a driveway at 120 Enterprise Street in Austin.
The driver, Balbina ‘Barbie’ Hernandez, 35, of Austin was arrested and charged with Fleeing Law, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving While Suspended. A passenger in the vehicle, Shelly D. Coomer, 28, of Austin was arrested on an outstanding warrant for theft from Clark County.
Both women were incarcerated in Scott County Jail.
