A Real Hoosier Banana

Hoosier outdoorsmen know the paw-paw as the Hoosier Banana but Crothersville High School’s ag teacher Linda Maxie has grown the real thing in her backyard. One of her banana trees used as landscaping at her home has set abundant fruit. Perhaps the long dry spell and extended summer heat fooled the southern Indiana plant into thinking it was back in the tropics. She said that it is doubtful because of the shorter days of sunlight and cooler temperatures that the fuits will ripen sufficiently to eat.
