Three lots at the corner of Mulberry Street and Main Street (State Road 356) are proposed to be re-zoned to allow a Dollar General Store to be built in the southeast Scott County community of Lexington.
The property at 2883 S. Mulberry, 8014 and 8024 E. Main Street is owned by Charles Madden and Dorothy Brewer. The developer of the proposed retail store, Curtis S. Rafferty d/b/a DGS Bicknell IN is seeking a change in zoning from residential to B-1 local business before the Scott County Advisory Plan Commission, according to legal notices found in this week’s Times.
The property is across Main Street from Lexington Elementary School. Dollar General Proposes to sell general merchandise and groceries.
Dollar General rarely owns the real estate on which their stores are located opting to contract with a developer for construction of a store to their specifications and then lease the business property from the developer.
The Dollar General Store property on US 31 in Austin is owned by Rafferty as is the Dollar General Store west of the intersection of US 31 & SR 356 south of Scottsburg, according to the Scott County GIS real estate records. Another proposed Dollar General at the intersection of SR 135 & SR 58 in Freetown in northwest Jackson County is also owned by Rafferty, according to Jackson County real estate records. Site preparation work began at that location earlier this month.
A public hearing on the change in zoning will be heard on Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. in the Scott County Courthouse.
