Several new events have been added to next month’s Bicentennial edition of the Crothersville Red, White & Blue Festival.

For the 41st time the Crothersville community will come together on the second weekend of June to celebrate th flag, community and honor veterans. Tagged as ‘Indiana’s Most Patriotic Festival’ special plans are being made to help celebrate Indiana’s 200th birthday.

Boy Scout Troop 522 will present a flag ceremony on Friday, June 10, at 5 p.m.

The CHS Class of 2019 will hold a 5K Glow Run/Walk on Friday evening beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday morning, June 11, will be filled with activities for youth. At 10 a.m. will be a bubble gum blowing contest. A Pedal Tractor Pull sponsored by the Traditional Young Farmers will begin at 10:30. A Pet & Bike Parade steps off at noon in front of the stage.

“During the morning, kids will be able to participate in street drawings with chalk,” said festival organizer Sherry Bridges. “They’ll be encouraged to draw their favorite things to do and see at the festival.”

Just in time for lunch, there will be a porkburger eating contest at 11 a.m. Denise Maxie will line up contestants to see who can eat the most number of ‘World Famous FFA Pork Burgers’ in 10 minutes.

On Saturday morning in the CHS gym, Otter Basketball Training Camp will begin at 8 a.m. Camps will be held throughout the day.

Robert Becker and Radio 96.3 WJAA will be broadcasting live the “Thrill in the Ville” beginning at 9 p.m. and will start the countdown as Zambelli Fireworks prepares to light up the Crothersville sky at 10 p.m.

Brady Amusements will return this year with carnival rides and will offer a special ride promotion on Wednesday evening, June 8.

Traditional and additional events are still in the planning stages and will be announced soon, said Bridges. Residents can follow the festival on Facebook for the latest event updates, she said.

Little Mr. & Miss Red White & Blue Sought

All boys and girls between the ages of 5-7 who are residents of Jackson County are invited to participate in the RWB Festivals’ Little Mr. & Miss Contest.

Winners, determined by the amount of money raised, will be crowned on stage at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, and will be riding in the festival parade on Saturday, June 11.

Applications can be obtained at Jubilee Flowers & Gifts, 801 W. Tipton Street in Seymour and The Peoples Bank in Crothersville. All applications must be returned by May 31 by 5 p.m.

“As soon as the child’s application is received they can begin raising funds,” said Bridges.
