Everyone who enjoys the outdoors is invited to help clean up and improve the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge in celebration of National Public Lands Day this Saturday, Sept. 26.
There will be work for volunteers of all ages and abilities and lunch will be provided.   The event will start at 9 a.m. at the refuge Visitor Center and work will include trash pickup, invasive species removal, work on a Children’s Nature Playground, seed collecting, and many other projects. Participants may spend the day or just a few hours, and all are welcome.
If you would like to help monarch butterflies, but cannot help Saturday, we will also be collecting milkweed seed on Sunday, Sept. 27. Volunteers can meet at the Visitor Center at 9 a.m.
National Public Lands Day is a day set aside each year to celebrate our national system of parks, refuges, national forests, grasslands, and other recreation areas. Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge is one of three national wildlife refuges in Indiana; the others are Big Oaks near Madison and the Patoka River near Oakland City.
