Police continue to search for a man who robbed two banks in Jackson County last Thursday morning.
Centra Credit Union, on Jackson Park Drive in Seymour was robbed around 10:49 a.m. last Thursday, Aug. 28. The second was reported at 11:45 a.m. at The Peoples Bank on North Armstrong Street in Crothersville.
Police said video surveillance shows the same man robbed both banks.
He is described as white and fair-skinned, about 6 feet, roughly 200 pounds, with short, reddish/brown hair. Police report he’s clean shaven with sideburns.
During the Seymour robbery, the suspect wore a blue-and-white button-up plaid shirt with a dark T-shirt underneath. He also wore camouflage cargo shorts and a camouflage hat.
The man wore the same attire at the Crothersville bank except he changed his shirt to one that had the words “Mr. Rogers” printed on it.
Seymour Chief of Police Bill Abbott said the first robbery began when the man walked into Centra Credit Union and passed the teller a note.
The robber got an undetermined amount of cash, police said.
No injuries were reported in either robbery, Abbott said.
Abbott said the man fled on foot to a vehicle parked southwest of the bank at an apartment complex near Oak Street and Miller Lane. Police have no description of the vehicle.
Cash was found on the ground near the bank.
“I’m guessing he dropped it,” Abbott said. “It was in an envelope, and it may have been stuck in his pocket and fell out as he ran.”
Police said they are unsure if he acted alone.
Police said the man then drove to the Crothersville bank and robbed it in a similar way- handing the teller a note and then fleeing on foot, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Noel Houze.
The state police are investigating the Crothersville robbery.
Houze said the man did not display a weapon during the Crothersville robbery.
Detectives from the law enforcement agencies are comparing notes and evidence as they continue the investigations.
“Obviously, there’s a whole lot of information we’re piecing together between us,” Abbott said.
Area agencies, such as the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Scott County Sheriff’s Department, also were notified immediately after the first robbery.
Police are not releasing how much money was taken in either robbery.
Margaret R. Brown Elementary School and Crothersville Community Schools, which are both within the area of the two banks, were put on lockdown as a precaution.
