Jackson County residents should begin receiving their property tax bills sometime in the middle of this month and there will be two due dates, Nov. 10 and Feb. 10, according to Treasurer Kathy Hohenstreiter.
Hohenstreiter said there is some good news for most homeowners.
“Generally, they are going to see that their taxes went down,” Hohenstreiter said.
She is recommending that anyone who wants to deduct their property taxes on their tax return should pay the second installment before the end of the year. “We’re urging escrow companies do that for their customers,” she said.
She said many taxpayers have already paid their property taxes this year and will receive refunds if they paid more than they were required. Those refunds will come sometime after the deadline for the first installment passes Nov. 10 and the books are balanced, Hohenstreiter said.
The bill property tax owners receive will come with forms for both installments.
Taxpayers may visit the treasurer’s office in Brownstown to pay their bills or they may pay at The Peoples Bank branches in Brownstown, Crothersville and Seymour and the State Bank of Medora. Bills also may be paid online at www.jackson-tax.net.
