Crothersville To Get Over $423,400 To Pave Streets With State Community Crossings Grant

Crothersville residents will see a lot…a LOT… of street paving in town next year.
Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced last Wednesday, that Crothersville was among the 396 cities, towns and counties that will receive a combined $150 million in state-matching funds for local road projects through the Next Level Roads: Community Crossings Initiative.
The town went all in committing over $141,000 in local paving money to be granted $423,406 in state money for additional paving.
“This is tremendous news for the town, “said council president Lenvel ‘Butch’ Robinson. “This will allow us to mill and resurface at least 14 streets all over town next year.”
“This is a big deal for all of Crothersville,” said town engineer Brad Bender of FPBH. “For each dollar we committed, the state gave us an additional $3 from INDOT.”
The town will have over $564,500 to resurface streets next year, Bender said. Usually the town spends $70,000 annually on resurfacing.
“Superior local roads are a key factor in maintaining Indiana’s reputation as the Crossroads of America,” Gov. Holcomb said. “I am encouraged that a record number of communities applied for and received Community Crossings Initiative funds this year.”
Community Crossings was created by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016. Funds for the program are awarded from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. To qualify for funding, local governments must provide local matching funds, 50 percent for larger communities or 25 percent for smaller communities, from a funding source approved for road and bridge construction.
Crothersville wasn’t the only area community to be awarded extra road money. Seymour will receive $706,731 under the Community Crossing Grant; Austin was granted $723,858 and Scott County was granted $462,129.
Bender said the streets scheduled to be resurfaced in Crothersville under the grant in 2018 include:
•East Street from Moore to and including Virginia Court.
•West Street from Moore to East Street.
•Bethany Road from Howard Street to the southern town limits.
•Kovener Street from Main St. to Benham Ave.
•Park Avenue from Main to Benham,
•Rider Avenue from Bethany to Kovener
•Benham Ave. from Bethany Road to Kovener St.
•Jackson Street from Main St. to Coleman Ave.
•Bard Street from Seymour Road to Preston St.
•Walnut Street from Seymour Road to preston St.
•Oak Street from Seymour Road to Preston St.
•West Bard Street from Kovener St. west to town limits.
•West Walnut Street from Kovener St. west to town limits.
•Mill Street from Park Ave. to Kovener St.

Fall Fell But The Temperatures Did Not

by Curt Kovener

Fall officially began across Hoosier land last Thursday with the Autumnal Equinox but the thermometer remained near 90°. While the calendar says it is officially fall, the wilderness has been giving signs of the changing seasons for several weeks.
Some black gum trees have shown tinges of red and sassafras show their hope to become yellow-orange before long.
Some maples and yellow poplars have foregone much color change and their leaves have flittered to the ground and the wilderness retreat’s back deck. It now requires nearly daily sweeping and blowing.
The oak tree that overhangs the roof will occasionally release an acorn, which makes a dull plunk on the roof, then rolls down before plunking again and bouncing on the previously clean rear deck.
Willow the cat will look at the ceiling and follow the rolling acorn on its path as if it might be some tasty rodent in the house. Emma the Great Pyrenees merely barks a protective bark. She does a lot of that at forest sounds.
The paw-paw crop was paltry this year with only enough found for a fresh fall fruit treat. Paw-paws are the earliest trees to bloom in the spring; their bronze bell shaped blooms open before bees and other pollinators come out of their winter slumber. The large numbers of flowers in the spring are not necessarily a harbinger of a plentiful harvest.
Persimmons, on the other hand, are in abundance; the trees’ limbs hanging heavy with yellow blush fruit. Over the next few weeks the now puckery fruit will ripen to a dark orange, lose their astringency and sweeten up before falling to the ground.
I’ve found late afternoon to be the best time for gathering persimmons as there will be the day’s droppings to gather before the night time woodland residents feast on the fruit.
And my favorite fall activity, gathering huge Hoosier hickory nuts will get into full swing in a few weeks with cooling temperatures and gusty winds to dislodge the nuts. An early venture to my hickory honey hole revealed a few good size nuts already on the ground and a good number more waiting on weather to dislodge them from the tree.
And fall also brings down the leaves—and believe me when I say we’ve got plenty of leaves— which get mulched and stacked into piles for decomposing into good tilthy garden soil.

The court will set a date for a hearing at least seven (7) days before the advertised date of sale and the court will determine any defenses to the application for judgment at the hearing. The county auditor and the county treasurer are entitled to receive all pleadings, motions, petitions, and other filings related to the defense to the application for judgment.
Such sale will be held on 10/27/2017 at the Courthouse and that sale will continue until all tracts and real property have been offered for sale.
Property will not be sold for an amount which is less than the sum of:

(C) all penalties due on the delinquencies, and
(D) an amount prescribed by the county auditor that equals the sum of:
(1) twenty-five dollars ($25) for postage and publication costs; and
(2) any other costs incurred by the county that are directly attributable to the tax sale; and
(E) any unpaid costs due under IC 6-1.1-24-2(c) from a prior tax sale.
No property listed below shall be sold if, at any time before the sale, the Total Amount for Judgment is paid in full. If the real property is sold in the tax sale, the amount required to redeem such property will be 110% of the minimum bid for which the tract or real property was offered at the time of sale, if redeemed not more than six (6) months after the date of sale, or 115% of the minimum bid for which the tract or real property was offered at the time of sale, if redeemed more than six (6) months after the date of sale, plus the amount by which the purchase price exceeds the minimum bid on the real property plus five percent (5%) per annum interest on the amount by which the purchase price exceeds the minimum bid on the property. All taxes and special assessments upon the property paid by the purchaser subsequent to the sale, plus five percent (5%) per annum interest on those taxes and special assessments, will also be required to be paid to redeem such property.
In addition, IC 6-1.1-25-2 (e) states the total amount required for redemption may include the following costs incurred and paid by the purchaser or the purchaser’s assignee or the county before redemption: (1) The attorney’s fees and cost of giving notice under IC 6-1.1-25-4.5; (2) The costs of title search or examining and update the abstract of title for the tract or item of real property. The period of redemption shall expire on Monday, October 29, 2018 for certificates sold in the tax sale. For certificates struck to the county, the period of redemption may expire Monday, February 26, 2018.
If the tract or item of real property is sold for an amount more than the minimum bid and the property is not redeemed, the owner of record of the property who is divested of ownership at the time the tax deed is issued may have a right to the tax sale surplus.
The Auditor and Treasurer specifically reserve the right to withhold from the sale any parcel which has been listed in error, or which otherwise becomes ineligible for sale either prior to 10/27/2017 or during the duration of the sale.
This notice of real property tax sale, and the tax sale itself are undertaken and will be conducted pursuant to the requirements of the laws of the State of Indiana which regulate the sale of land for delinquent taxes, pursuant to I.C. 6-1.1-24-1 et seq.
The County does not warrant the accuracy of the street address or common description of the property, and a misstatement in the key number or street address does not invalidate an otherwise valid sale.
Minimum bid amounts are prescribed by law and are subject to change prior to the auction date.
Pursuant to IC 6-1.1-24-3(e), property descriptions may be omitted for properties appearing on the certified list in consecutive years. A complete property list may be obtained at www.sriservices.com or in an alternative form upon request.
